I called to make reservations for a particular night when 25% of the restaurant proceeds were going to charity. The restaurant is small and they didn’t have seating available that night so I was offered the opportunity to come back the next night (a Friday) and they would give the same donation. I was impressed. We had a very nice meal of vegetarian polenta lasagna and steak. Service was good. We were thanked for coming to support the charity. There’s a very friendly atmosphere and a cozy feeling to the small dining room and counter seating.
Nice neighborhood atmosphere and good food
Worth the trip across town
Very nice neighborhood restaurant. Braised short ribs were excellent and were the pork with apples. The baked brie was a little inconsistent. Seem to have a small amount of brie relative to the size of the plate. Service was friendly.
We dined at Bruno’s on a Sunday evening. The restaurant is small and inviting. We were greeted warmly and seated immediately. Our server was accommodating and even offered to let us taste a wine that was open to help us decide which bottle to order. The calamari appetizer was wonderful – light and crisp. I had flatiron steak and my husband the salmon. Portion size was good and the food was thoughtfully prepared and tasty. All the food arrived at our table piping hot. Our server checked in with us periodically and left us in charge of pouring our own wine. It was a very enjoyable meal.
For good reason we sought this place out…
For good reason we sought this place out from hazy memories of a previous trip. Genuinely warm service of nicely presented meals…from meatloaf or crusted halibut to an ever changing house specialty burger…
No pretension, hype or weary-of-tourists disdain.
But then we don’t act like Texans or rude connoisseurs. We love a good meal, good by-the-glass house wine picks and folks in the food biz cause they like it.
A relief from Napa and nice end-of-the-day after poking around Dry Creek.
Bruno’s is Uno!
I have been to Bruno’s on 4th street a half dozen times; even held a party there once. This is a wonderful place whether you are along, with a partner or group of friends. The owner, Rick Bruno, is the epitome of small restaurant owners. He is friendly, huge smile and often times chats with you at your table. The food is fantastic. Best french fries in town if I do say so myself. I have even copied how he prepares his broccoli. As a vegetarian, I haven’t tried the meat dishes, but those I have gone with swear by them. Each time they make me a special vegetarian dish, even if not on the menu. This is a wonderful place to go, spend a quality evening (or lunch) and get the small-town feel that is hard to find in Santa Rosa. Do get the fries next time you go in, you won’t be disappointed 🙂
